Introduction:

The Department of Mathematics of the International University, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, was established in 2005. Currently, the faculty consists of 2 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 3 PhDs, and 1 PhD candidate in Statistics. All faculty members of the Mathematics Department have been trained at the PhD or postdoctoral levels in advanced countries such as the United States, France, Germany, Italia, Poland, Finland, etc. The faculty members have extensive experience in teaching, training, and are highly active in scientific research.

The Mathematics Department is responsible for developing syllabi, curricula, and delivering mathematics courses for students at the International University. Mathematics courses are designed with the aim of providing fundamental knowledge of the subject and developing logical thinking for students. The taught topics are closely linked to applications in each student’s specialized field of study.

The Mathematics Department has been offering undergraduate programs in Applied Mathematics (Financial Engineering and Risk Management) since 2013 and Statistics (Applied Statistics) since 2023.

  1. Applied Mathematics (Financial Engineering and Risk Management)

The field of Financial Engineering and Risk Management is a multidisciplinary field that integrates knowledge and skills from various areas such as economics, mathematics, applied mathematics, information technology, data science, and financial theory. Financial engineers use quantitative analysis tools to develop financial market transactions through mathematical models, statistics, algorithms, and artificial intelligence. The program provides students with a foundational understanding of financial theory and microeconomic and macroeconomic principles, and simultaneously, it imparts in-depth knowledge of the theory and applications of financial mathematics models and portfolio risk management, probability-statistics models, optimization, and machine learning. Importantly, students are equipped with programming skills and proficiency in big data analysis. Graduates in Financial Engineering and Risk Management can apply and design models and algorithms in finance and financial computation software. They can analyze data to predict future market trends and estimate the risk exposure of investment portfolios.
